The tour includes the following sites. You will see the Church of Blachernae.
You will descend into the Basilica Cistern. Then, you will be introduced to the amazing Panorama 1453 Museum. At the end of the tour, you will explore the ancient walls of Constantinople.
The Church of the Theotokos of Blachernae is a famous church in the history of Eastern Christianity, once standing near the imperial palace in the Blachernae district of Constantinople, close to the Golden Horn. In honor of the Theotokos appearing in this church, the Orthodox Church established the Feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos.
The Panorama 1453 Museum is a panoramic exhibit in Turkey dedicated to the decisive assault on Constantinople’s defensive fortifications by the troops of Sultan Mehmed II (1430-1481). It is housed in a building specially constructed for this purpose, with a large circular hall (38 meters in diameter, 20 meters high), and is meant to be viewed from a central platform located 14 meters from the walls. For enhanced visual effects, special artificial lighting is applied to different sections of the panorama.
The ancient walls of Constantinople are an astonishing architectural structure dating back to the 5th century AD and the only surviving example of such fortifications in Europe today.
The Basilica Cistern is one of many reservoirs built under Constantinople to store drinking water in case of drought or siege. A staircase with 52 steps will take you underground. In the dim light, the ancient reservoir with 336 columns will appear before your eyes.
